RED – Rocks

By Greg

I love music, more specifically, I love music that moves me.  I usually gravitate toward hard driving rock and this is where I found these guys.  About a year ago I was sitting at my computer with ChistianRock.net cranked up (a great online radio station) and a song came on that grabbed me instantly — Breathe Into Me.  I’m a big fan of Linkin’ Park and Red is cut out of the same cloth.  It wasn’t long before I popped open my iTunes store and bought the album End of Silence.

Red hails from Nashville, Tennessee and released their debut album End of Silence in 2006 to a receptive audience.  Nominated for a grammy, Red was on the map.  For me, I found RED to be a band that pulled together pounding bass lines, smooth keyboard melodies, and heartfelt vocals built around faith.  Each track’s lyrics throws a dart that hits the bullseye of where guys end up at different times in their lives.  Whether you’re battling hard with something gripping you that’s holding you down, or you’re at the end of your rope and staring at the pieces, RED’s album “End of Silence” hits you right where you are.

I have ran into a few christian legalist types that feel like there is no way this kind of music can honor God.  What surprises them most is that most of the old “standard hymns” were actually Christian words put to old bar songs.  There’s a world of ways to honor God with our lips and RED has found a way that hits me right between the eyes.  Red’s music may be too strong for your tastes, or perhaps it’s just not your style.  That’s ok.  I like it all, and Red is on my ipod…. if you see my earbuds in, you can bet I’m jamming to Red.
