Falling Up – Music that moves you

By Greg

If you know me, I mean if you really know me, then you’ll understand that what I’m about to say is a fairly remarkable comment.  I’m a lover of all types of music and I don’t discriminate based on style, genre, tone, or any other fancy music term.  I really tune into the music and for me the vocals are an instrument that should compliment the entire performance.  I rarely get the lyrics on the first run, or for that fact the 1000th run.  To this day when The Who comes on the radio singing “Who Are you”… I’m singing … “cool water… ooh… ooh….ooh..ooh.”  That drives Rhonda insane (she’s a lyrics person). Take a listen next time and see if you hear… cool water… hehe.  But I digress.

This is why I’m entering this article into Live Bold:  (Here is the remarkable comment) Falling Up is a band that, for me, is quite possibly the best music I have ever heard.  That my friends is a bold statement.  I I’ve been listening to their tunes on Christianrock.net and couldn’t wait until their songs came back up in rotation.  I recently joined the website Last.fm and started pulling together all of Falling Up’s songs into my playlist, and I couldn’t find one I didn’t like.  The best part is that Falling Up is a Christian Rock/Alternative Band whose message is positive and points to Hope, Faith, and God’s Grace.

After a few searches, I discovered that Falling up has just released a new CD:  A best of compilation:
This CD is titled:  Discover the Trees Again.  I’m no philosopher, but what it means to me is… take some time away from your grind, get back to basics, and enjoy what God has created for you… now.

Falling Up’s music is best describd as juxtaposed.  The contrast between the driving rhythm and the soothing melodies wouldn’t seem to go together, but they work perfectly.  The vocal element is an instrument unto itself and weaves in and out of the contrasting bass lines and soothing keyboards to blend them together.

The songs range from hard rock to melodic, hip hop to soft rock… all tied into one package.  Whether you are a fan or not of this style of music, I am impressed and encouraging this band to keep striving forward.  The musicianship is clean and crisp, the vocals are strong and positive, and the end result is a musical style that reaches into the hearts of young men and women.  I have done my part by punching up iTunes and downloading this gem.  In fact, the CD is playing now as I write… and will continue.

So… if you know me… you know that it would be pretty impossible for me to say that I have perhaps found the perfect band that suits my strange musical tastes.  As I age beyond the years of those typically found “digging” this style of music… you can be assured that I will not stop being young at heart.  I look forward to standing front and center at a Falling Up concert with my hands up and prayers blazing.  I ain’t ashamed of what I like… it makes me who I am.  You’re never too old to Rock and Roll.
