What does it mean to Live Bold? It’s not a complicated issue, it’s simply laying down your pride, allowing God to be in control, and giving Him the credit when things turn around. LIVE BOLD had a chance to talk to Eddie Sims a couple of weeks ago over the phone. Here is his story of Living Bold, in his own words.
My name is Eddie Sims. I am 38 years old and was excelling in a fast growing company in Florida. From 2005-2006 my salary more than doubled, putting me well into 6 figures. Then the housing crash hit. 95 % of the company’s sales were supplying building materials for residential construction. In one year, my income was cut to only making 20% of what I had been making. My wife and I had bought a home just before the market spiraled down. We were now wondering how we were going to keep our home, did I need to find another job or could this market turn around, were we going to file for bankruptcy, what were we going to do.
Last March, as we was at the end of our savings, my former employer contacted me to see if I was interested in coming back to work with them. The previous departure had been less than desirable. My pride was partly keeping me from saying,” Yes!” I met with them on a Tuesday and told them what I thought I was worth – a high number for the industry. They said they could not do that. Little did I know, that three days later, I would be let go from my current job. It was a shock, yet somehow I knew God would provide. I got back in touch with my former boss and asked if he could still use me. He excitedly received me back. The Lord is truly blessing the business and I am loving my work.
The Lord taught me several things through this. We never know what will happen – we can’t speculate on the future, but we can trust in our faithful Lord. I learned that He never runs out of ideas to provide for us – He’s never in a hurry, but He is always on time! I realized I can let my pride distort my view of God’s provisions – not a good thing. My wife and I have also learned that the home – the one we will probably have to give back to the bank – is just a place. Our family, no matter where we lay our heads, is where we call home.
Things are still tough, but the God we had put all our trust in has never disappointed us. I had a wise man tell me,” Dare to trust God. Because you could be the first person in the history of man God could ever fail!”
Stories like Eddie’s gives all of us the courage to stand in the face of uncertainty and know that God is in control. For those of you who are facing times just like Eddie, know that God wants so badly to pull you out. You just have to dare to trust. Now that takes some Bold Living!
