As a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, This day marks a pretty significant turning point for our community. The anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. This event isn’t celebrated with parades and fanfare, rather memorials, rememberances, and prayers services. The current state of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is pretty good in relation to recovery efforts. We still have a few FEMA trailers scattered around, many properties still sporting a nice clean slab of concrete just as it was 3 years ago, and insurance rates through the roof. I will probably not spend much time remembering Katrina this year as we are keeping a keen eye on our new friend… Gustav.
This isn’t an article on weather, so I won’t go there. However, know that everyone here seems to be some kind of weather expert that can interpret High Pressure Ridges, Isobars, Tracking Models, and Low Pressur Troughs… myself included. If we begin to talk like a meteorologist, just grin and listen… it’s our way of coping with the nerves that start tingling when these storms get close. Know also that we all choose to live here with full knowledge that storms will continue to come. My rationale is that… yes these storms are bad, but at least we have plenty of warning.
All of this rigamarole is summed up in this: CORE12 Ministires (parent of Live Bold) is preparing for another recovery. With an eye on the Gulf of Mexico, we’ll soon be faced with an opportunity to DO rather than TALK. For those of you inland and hours away, keep us and our communities in your prayers… a simple prayer of safety and wisdom. Keep track of our recovery and aide initiative that will be announced as Gustav makes up his mind as to which direction he plans to go.
