A Morning Prayer

God… Father… Provider… I cannot not breathe, speak, or utter any sound that can pay tribute to what you have done for me.  I stand on the ground in the space you have provided just for me… and I look into the heavens with the eyes you have given me… and I can’t comprehend your greatness.  I am speechless.  Any prayer I offer falls short in comparison to what the depth of my inner soul wants to say.  I can only stand and stare at your creation all around me and take note as it all points to you in praise and unity.

Father… how can I approach you with the life that I have assimilated to this point?  You’ve given me so much that I cannot begin to count the years it would take to say thank you.  I catch a glimpse of your love for me through the love I have for my family… and I cannot fathom the depth of love it must have took to give up your son so that I could stand here today… with hope.  Yet… I forget about you sometimes and I throw your sacrifice to the side and become concerned only for myself… forgive me for being so conceited with my life.

God… show me how to be faithful.  Make new my resolve to use my talents, skills, and abilities to be love in action.  Take away the ritual, the routine, and the repetition that is far from your desire for me.  Place me in the path of lives that are seeking you.  Grant me the wisdom not to judge or condemn, but to understand and deliver your truth.  Bring me into the company of those people who have wronged me, so I may forgive them of their worldly pursuits against me.  Set the stage for me to face those I have wronged in my life… and shut my mouth against them so I may hear their hurt.  Soften my heart that I can right the wrong.

Thank you God for revealing yourself to me… as small of a piece of you that I glimpse… it’s more than I can handle.  Mold me into the man, the father, the son, the leader, and the friend you need me to be and train me how to use the tools and weapons I will need to survive today.  Open my eyes to evil and stand between me and harm.  Help me understand that I am not invincible and that evil’s only desire is to kill me and darken my heart…. help me respect that and help me know that you protect me from more than I will ever know.

You’ve placed me here for your purpose.  Give me the courage to act in your honor and embolden me to stand against the rush of hate, persecution, doubt, and fear that will try to separate You from me today.  Plant a reminder in my soul that when I stray from you, I know that you are right behind me every step, every stride… waiting for me to turn back around and cling to you.

Allow me to show your strength today and offer a glimpse of you through me.  In all that I do today… remind me to do it with excellence.  I thank you, God, for the hope of faith and the life that exists in grace.

I offer my thoughts to you and stand in total humility behind Christ as he petitions you on my behalf.  May I not let His petitions go void.

May it be so…today.
