Let’s be honest, every promise of the world is going to be broken. Such a promise starts with a tempting lie in the form of a rationalization to fulfill a legitimate need by sinning. The sin is followed by condemnation and then shame. Diabolically, the shame is also mixed with a growing attachment to the sin. It is an effective strategy that has challenged mankind since the beginning. Thankfully, the God who designed you knows your needs and how to perfectly fulfill them in a way that blesses you and brings Him glory.

There is a spiritual transaction that takes place when we engage with another in sexual intimacy. Sexual intimacy occurs visually as well as physically. Part of the process in helping anyone break free of pornography includes dealing with the attachment that is established when we are exposed to sexually explicit media. The strong draw to return to these images is in part due to the attachments that develop.

The first step to break free of pornography requires you to forgive and asking God to heal those who have not loved you well or have sexually abused you. Then reject the lie that somehow you are not worthy of authentic love, followed by declaring the truth of God’s unconditional love for you. The next step is praying a prayer to break the personal and pornographic attachments that have developed.

When you are ready for this step, here is a non-negotiable list of prayers.  These prayers will help you break the attachment to pornography.  Contemplate each item, and when you have received a fresh spirit, move to the next.

Keys to Freedom:  Prayers of Confession and Forgiveness
  • Forgive me for the sexual intimacy I have had outside of marriage with people I do not know through viewing sexually explicit materials.
  • Forgive me for allowing my eyes to pollute your sanctuary.
  • I confess that it was a selfish act and is not your will for me or any of those men/women to become involved in pornography.
  • I understand that paying for access to these materials means that I have participated in the spirit of prostitution and supported the ongoing sexual abuse of these people. I ask You to forgive me for that.
  • I confess that my participation with pornography in any way dishonors you and brings glory to Satan. Father, please forgive me for dishonoring you.
  • Forgive me for choosing to satisfy my legitimate need for intimacy with the lie of false intimacy.
Keys to Freedom:  Prayers for those participating in pornography

Father, I know that the people who I have seen have come under the influence of hell through severe brokenness and have been subjected to severe abuse, making them vulnerable to involvement in pornography. I ask that You would heal them of these wounds and guide them out of this lifestyle. I know that the parents of these people, especially the mothers and fathers of women in pornography, are brokenhearted by their children’s decision to participate in pornography and I ask that you would comfort them and restore them to their children.

Father, I ask that You would return any part of their soul or spirit that they lost because of participating in pornography. Please restore to me any aspect of my soul or spirit that I lost by viewing those people. I ask that You would remove any actual spiritual or sense of connection or oneness between me and those people.

Keys to Freedom:  Prayer for healing your soul

Father, I ask that you would heal any spiritual infection I received from any perverse spirit that may have entered me through by participating in pornography. Father I specifically reject the sins of ___________________(Lust, Prostitution, Lesbianism, Homosexuality, Fornication, Adultery) which I have witnessed. I reject them and ask You to grow in my heart an overwhelming desire for purity.

Keys to Freedom:  Prayer to be released from the desire

Father, I know that participating in pornography hosts the presence of Satan in my heart, allowing him a foothold through which to torment me. Father I now ask that You would remove any authority that has been given to Satan to torment me.  Father, forgive me for grieving the Holy Spirit and please remove from my mind any images that do not gratify your Spirit.

When the desire to seek out pornography begins to fill your heart, recite these prayers.
