Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool— how much worse lying lips to a ruler! – Proverbs 17:7 (NIV)
Lies are the weapons rulers use to manipulate others. A good rule of thumb is to be very careful of trusting people who don’t trust people. If a leader among you doesn’t seem to trust the counsel of those around them, you can generally expect a broken trust with them.
Leaders tend to guide their followers from a collection of their own experiences. When a person is formed and shaped by lies, deceit, and manipulation, it is only natural that they will view those characteristics as inherent to the job of leadership.
Selecting manipulative, divisive, and untrustworthy people to lead you will always leave you under the foot of a fool.
You may not always be leader, but you are fully able to choose whom you will follow. Examine your leaders and demand a strong root in Christ as their leader in life. Doing so will reveal elements of truth, honor, integrity within their character.
Every Christian is a leader in the home and among peers. Are you positioning yourself as a follower of Christ?
Do people trust you?
Do you trust others?
PRAY: God, give me a strong desire to pursue truth. Teach me to restrain my tongue from lying. Show me how to be trustworthy and honorable in your sight. Convict me when I want to lie. Amen.
