It is election day in the United States… and the world is watching. I suppose it would be appropriate to make some statement about the sanctity of life, moral integrity, experience, and the best tax plan, but this isn’t that kind of website. I’m no politician, I think I’m a bit too “frank” for that. I have very little tolerance for pandering, slandering, and correctness.
I have read “to the best of my ability” both candidate’s “plan for America” and I can tell you that they have hired some pretty crafty writers. I can also say that neither candidate seems to be overtly Christian. At the crux of the debate is the long standing issue — Abortion. I’m one of those purist types. I believe the government has no business in the wombs of its citizens. And I believe that life begins at conception. So I guess you could say that I am pro-chioce and pro-life. As Christians, I would expect that you would be Pro-Life… right? As a citizen of any nation, I don’t want the government (often suspect in their decision making) to have any dealings with telling me what to do with my body.
I am voting for McCain simply for the hope that the sanctity of life may be preserved. I do like Obama’s plan to protect a woman’s right to choose. So you can see my conundrum. I have given up on the idea that I should vote for the best “tax plan”. In the greater scheme of things… I would rather die knowing that I attempted to support life rather than worry about another dumb tax plan.
You make your own decision, but pray hard and know who and why you are voting. There is still time.
I’ve had many personal discussions about who the right candidate may be and read zillions of emails that are either false, half true, or downright moronic. Sadly, there are hundreds of you that have made your decision based on false emails. You can do better than that. What I haven’t heard is the voice of the church. Where does your church stand on the election? Do you know? I bet not.
You may have had conversations “off the record” with your pastor, but have you heard a definitive position or endorsement from the pulpit? I doubt it. The larger question at hand isn’t who you are going to vote for… it’s the gag order placed upon our houses of worship.
When a church elects a tax-exempt status, it has exchanged open speech for hush money. The church has been quietly gagged by the threat of losing a tax status. I am sure there are pastors who speak openly and endorse candidates and urge members to vote for the best candidate who are best aligned with the Christian principles we strive to live by. These pastors are dangerously close to being reported to the IRS (these are the ones I really like!)
Our church goes to great lengths to tell us how to better live our lives according to God’s master plan, but the church isn’t being a good example on giving us a “bold” model to follow. The next time I hear a preacher dance around and issue and do the soft shoe around an outright endorsement… I will walk out.
C’mon Christians! Who are we?!? What have we become?!? I could care less about what your political orientation may be or who you are going to vote for today… I’m just glad you’ve researched your candidate with care and know why you are voting for him (you did read up on him right?). For those of you who have not really looked in to who you are voting for, but voting some old political line… you need some direction and some guidance. Where does your candidate stand on the issues that matter most to God? Do you know? If not… this is where your church is responsible for helping. Doing the research and telling you who lines us with your Christian beliefs… but you probably have not heard a word… sad really.
Hey Church! Consider this a call to responsibility. Forget about your tax status… and start making a stand that actually might do something about changing the world. Don’t stand back and dance around an endorsement… lead your congregations.
It’s stuff like this that make Christians look like soft and puffy little kittens. No wonder we get pushed aside by our culture. We’ve laid down and accepted hush money.
tsk. tsk. tsk.

PS: CORE12 Ministries, LLC is a for profit fully taxed entity. This status was chosen for the sole purpose of not accepting hush money. We will “give to caesar what is caesars” and we will give God what is his. When issues are in need of support… we are glad to get in the ring and throw a few punches. We’re not concerned about losing a tax exempt status.
