Armchair Favre
If nothing else, then let’s call Brett Favre a winner. His gritty determination and passion for the game of football not only inspired kids everywhere to be the next great quarterback, his play inspired armchair quaterbacks across this country.
So when is it time to hang up the cleats? That’s a tough call. For most of us, going to work everyday isn’t exactly glamorous, exciting, or anywhere near as thrilling as leading a 4th quarter comeback to win a championship game. I can assure you that when my day comes… I’m not going to call back to the office and ask if I can return. What about you?
Even though we’re not in Brett’s shoes, we understand what it means to wrap ourselves around our career. Think about your life for just a second and imagine what it would look like if you suddenly stopped doing what you do everyday. If that’s what you’ve built your life around, you’ve missed the boat. Brett Favre acheived success not by sitting back and letting the game come to him. Brett grabbed the game, told it where he wanted it to go, and made a difference.
At this point in your life, you’ve got a decision to make. You can sit back and accept what is being heaped upon you every day, or you can take command of all that life has to offer by hitting the field “face first – chin out”. God has given all of us unique talents, and when we don’t use them we should be embarassed.
Brett Favre used his talent to it’s Nth degree, what about you? And what happens when you hang up your tool belt? Will the armchair quarterbacks sit back and say… “man, that guy will be missed…. he gave it his all… everyday.”
Go and be proud of what God made you to be, but don’t forget to give Him the credit for all of your acheivement. God gives you opportunities, don’t squander them. Has the opportunity for Brett come and gone? Will it tarnish his career or image as a Hall of Fame quarterback? I doubt it. At the bottom of it, Brett is just a guy who wants to give it all… let’s just hope that each of us do the same, but do it to honor our Faith… not our statue.
