Gathering in Grace
This past weekend a small group of men went on a retreat. Men for Others in Christ was a very rewarding experience for me as well as the other ten people of our group. The time was tight and it went so fast. We praised God, heard from lay people that had on their hearts a message, ate good and had a great fellowship with one another. His grace filled all who attended.
Ideas were brought from the new and old testaments that told the same story – to Love God with all your heart, soul and strength and to love others. That is the message of Christ Jesus. Jesus taught that the Kingdom of Heaven is here on earth. Not that it was something to come in the future but that it was here now. That kingdom of heaven was truly felt at Flint Creek this past weekend.
Men for Others in Christ came about as four friends met and realized that men do not connect like women’s groups and that there was a need to find a way to connect Jesus and men of our church. The group started very small with 13 men the first year and 11 this year. When we finished our last session there were tears in the eyes of several men that let us know that a connection was made. The connection was their heart to the love of Jesus Christ. The realization that this man some 2000 years ago did something so extraordinary for us that it cannot be forgotten. We have just passed through the Easter season and we need to lean into that idea that his act of love for humanity was so great that we should also meet at the foot of the cross and follow his teachings.
The number one issue in our country is to connect men to other men through Christ. Our M3 group is dedicated to that mission. But we as men individually as well as collectively need to make that our mission because Christ commanded us to go.
I have a prayer for the 11 men that attended Men for Others in Christ.
Watch over our each one of the men that attended Men for Others in Christ. Watch over their families when they cannot. May Your presence give them comfort, and Your love lend them the courage to face each day, confident in the knowledge that You will never leave them or forsake them. Protect them with your unfailing mercy and grace. Help us to finish the race and do things for your kingdom here on earth so that we can hear – Well done…
Amen
How does your love for Christ Jesus play out in your daily life? Do you look at each day as an opportunity to live in such a way that you might show that God’s kingdom is here on earth? Is His will being done in your life or are you living in the world. We all fall short from time to time.
