LIVE BOLD features a steady onslaught of topical information from our team of writers.  Each article is geared to reach into the lives of men and touch nerves, bring a laugh, inform, and ultimately motivate us all to build a faith that doesn’t back down.

FEATURED WRITERS:

Greg Arnold

The founder of Live Bold, Greg Arnold is a proud, left handed, protestant, husband, father, son, brother, Christian, American dude.  The journey of life has led Greg through many ups and downs and through it all has always pursued the written word.  Born in Scottsboro, Alabama with an average competency for school work, Greg always seemed to do things his own way and somehow ended up with a diploma.

After graduating from the University of Alabama, Greg continued his career in Radio Broadcasting that began years prior in high school.  This journey would end up being the spike in the heart of complacency in Greg’s life.  After being dealt a blow in business that could certainly be described as a cheap shot, a radical transformation took place in Greg’s life that brings us to this place – LIVEBOLD.org

I’ve got some issues, and I am far from perfect, but I dare not take another step without calling it like I see it.  I cannot breathe without God’s grace in my life.  I hope to inspire men to stand up and do what’s right in the sight of God.”

Greg has had the opportunity to teach and speak in the local church and is always excited to deliver a thought provoking message to anyone that will listen.  “Live Bold is more than just a catch phrase.  It’s an attitude that must become a part of who we are as Christian Men,” says Greg.

Greg is married to Rhonda with one daughter, one dog, and a cat that doesn’t like him.

Steve Fandel

Stephen Philip Fandel grew up in central Illinois, the oldest of four children. He was raised in a “rural setting” that included corn fields, cow pastures and gravel roads. Still, the big city (Peoria) was a mere 15 minutes down the highway. Steve was raised at a time when all the neighbors knew one another, you never locked your doors at night, and your parents always knew what kind of trouble you might be up to.  His dad was a union man who ran a blacktop plant in the city. His mother was a stay-at-home mom and later a part time librarian.

He was raised in the Catholic church where he was baptized, celebrated his first communion, went to confession and was later married to his lovely wife Julie. Growing up, Steve’s dad saw to it that the kids never missed Mass on Sundays and every Holy Day.  Although Steve whined about that at the time, he’s now eternally grateful his parents laid a strong foundation of faith that has served him well.

Steve became the “black sheep” of the family when he moved away from Illinois to the deep south. First Jacksonville, Florida, and then later the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Steve joined the United Methodist Church because he wanted his family to attend church together, and he couldn’t convince his wife to become Catholic! Surprising to some, this converted Catholic found many more similarities than differences in his new Protestant faith. The experience of both denominations has helped shape his spiritual walk and Christian growth.

Steve is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Class of 1980, with a degree in Radio-Television. After spending 12 years in radio news, Steve has been fulltime TV reporter for the past 17 years at WLOX-TV Biloxi, Mississippi.

Steve Rusk

Steve Rusk was born in Biloxi, Mississippi.  He was brought up going to church by his mother and his dad went sometimes but most of the time Steve’s father stayed home with their daughter, Lynda, a special needs child.  Steve attended St Paul United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs as a child and now attends faithfully as an adult.

Steve graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1970 and graduated from USM in 1974 with a BS in education.  Steve then began teaching Pre-Vocational Orientation at the Jackson County School for Exceptional Children.  Where he finished his career in the educational system as a teacher and a coach.

Steve began his spiritual journey as a adult thinking that he had to live life in a “spiritual” way and do it alone.  He admits failing and giving up.  Steve remarks, “I thought I had to do it by myself.  Like Jonathan Livingston Seagull trying to be the very best he could be at flying.  It was not until I realized that through God’s grace that I did not need to strive all by myself but God would lead and I could follow.  That is what he wanted from me all along, to trust in him, not myself.”

Steve’s journey through life has brought him into contact with men who not only took the time to invest into a relationship, but build bonds of friendship that inspire his faith and his writings.  ”Like I have said before to many people that my friends accept me for who I am, and they help me to become the the kind of person God wants me to be. That’s what good friends do.”

Steve married his high school sweetheart, Shelia, and has two daughters Robin and Lauren, and two grandchildren.
